Challenge System Rules

Opponents for Challenge

A competitive player may challenge the 4 competitive players ahead on the ladder, plus all the other players behind the first competitive player ahead of the challenger (if there are any).

A non-competitive player may challenge the 4 active (competitive or non-competitive) players ahead.

An inactive player can not challenge.

Game Format

Best 3 of 5. Standard rules and scoring. Players may request an umpire during club practices. The matches may be best 4 of 7 if both players consent.

Game Location

The match may be held at any location and time agreed to by both participants. Matches are encouraged to be held at club practice.

Challenge Mechanism

The challenger may challenge at a practice if both parties are in attendance. Otherwise, the challenger shall send an email to the club president or VP with the name of the desired opponent. It will then be forwarded the opponent. In both cases, the two participants will have one week to complete and report the match.

If the players are unable the complete a match, it is counted as a loss for the player at fault. The officers will judge each situation accordingly and fairly.
Either player may report the score. Scores shall be reported via email to the President or VP with the opponent CC’ed.
It is the opponent’s responsibility to notify the officers of an error in a reported score.

Challenge Results

If the lower ranked player wins, the lower ranked player moves above the higher ranked player.
For example. 1- Player A, 2 – Player B, 3 – Player C

Unranked Players

For unranked players interested in the challenge ladder, they are permitted to challenge one of the bottom 2 positions on the ladder in order to join. If they win the match, they may take the position above the victor. If they lose, they are added to the bottom of the ladder.

Alternately, the President, Vice President or Team Captain may assign (majority vote if there is disagreement) an initial ranking based on their own experience watching/playing that player. The highest possible initial ranking for a joining player is #5.

Varsity Team Considerations

The top 4 available players will be given preference for varsity competition, but the challenge ladder will not be the sole means of selecting competing players.

Ladder Details

The ladder will be maintained on this website by the President and Vice President.
